Vážení účastníci Bratislavských hudobných slávností, vážení milovníci dobrej hudby, už sme si zvykli, že jeseň v našom hlavnom meste sa nesie aj v znamení tónov vážnej hudby. Každý ročník Bratislavských hudobných slávností je niečím výnimočný a prináša nezabudnuteľné zážitky pre všetkých, ktorí navštívia niektorý z mnohých koncertov. Tohto roku to však nebudú len skladatelia, dirigenti či interpreti, na ktorých bude hudobné publikum zvedavé, ale mimoriadnu atmosféru podčiarkne aj vynovená Reduta, dá sa povedať, že priam bude v hlavnej úlohe a vytvorí dôstojný rámec mnohým koncertom, ktoré na 48. ročníku BHS odznejú. Bude ich dvadsaťsedem a umelci pochádzajú z vyše dvadsiatich krajín Európy, severnej a južnej Ameriky, Ázie i ďalekej Austrálie. Teda opäť mimoriadne bohatá ponuka plná zvučných mien a kvalitných hudobných telies, napríklad Viedenskí filharmonici s vynikajúcim talianskym dirigentom Daniele Gattim, Česká filharmónia s novým šéfdirigentom Jiřím Bělohlávkom, Budapeštiansky festivalový orchester s Istvánom Fischerom, dva vynikajúce orchestre z Anglicka, Hamburskí filharmonici či Španielsky národný orchester. A tiež Symfonický orchester Českého rozhlasu pod taktovkou jeho súčasného šéfdirigenta Ondreja Lenárda – medzinárodne uznávaného Slováka a tohtoročného jubilanta. Bratislavské hudobné slávnosti okrem toho, že sú ozajstným sviatkom hudby, sú i možnosťou na pozitívnu konfrontáciu a spoluprácu umelcov z rozličných krajín. A tak napríklad Slovenská filharmónia na otváracom koncerte vystúpi so svojím šéfdirigentom – Francúzom Emmanuelom Villaumom a americkou huslistkou Sarah Chang. Záver zasa bude patriť libanonskému dirigentovi žijúcemu v Paríži Georgeovi Pehlivanianovi a vynikajúcemu juhokórejskému klaviristovi Kun-Woo Paikovi a takýchto príkladov a verím, že i výnimočných zážitkov bude viac. Odznejú i premiéry, sólové recitály, dielo na objednávku Festivalového výboru, tentoraz od mladého slovenského skladateľa Petra Grolla, predstavia sa hudobníci z Košíc a Banskej Bystrice a už uznávanou tradíciou sa stala tribúna mladých interpretov New Talent. Verím, že každý milovník dobrej hudby si z bohatého programu vyberie jeden či viac koncertov a domov bude odchádzať plný dojmov z úžasnej hudby. A súčasne dúfam, že všetci účinkujúci i návštevníci z domova i zahraničia precítia tú vynikajúcu atmosféru, ktorú festival prináša, a ako som už spomínal, tohto roku obohatenú o priestory precízne zrekonštruovanej a zaujímavo dotvorenej Reduty.

Podľa amerického psychiatra kanadského pôvodu Erica Berna predstavuje spoločenská štrukturácia času jeden z mála prostriedkov, ktorý môže človeku uchrániť jeho vlastné duševné zdravie. Len málokto sa vyhne duševným problémom, ak je výlučným pánom vlastného času a len on rozhoduje o tom, ako ho strávi. Človek žije podľa času prírody, ktorý ho spája s vesmírom. Žije tiež podľa času spoločnosti, ktorý ho spája s ostatnými ľuďmi. Najstaršie relígie nerozlišovali len čas kalendára, ale aj čas naplnený významom. Rozdelili rok na dni práce a sémantizované dni, venované spoločným aktivitám. V živote človeka sa strieda čas práce a čas sviatku. Bez tohto rytmu by bol život človeka neznesiteľný. Kedysi veľmi dávno niekto múdry spojil čas sviatku s hudbou. Nestalo sa to len v Európe, ale vo všetkých ľudských kultúrach. Čas sviatku je výnimočným integrátorom spoločnosti a hudba patrí k jeho najvýznamnejším pomocníkom. Naše Bratislavské hudobné slávnosti napĺňajú náš život sviatočným časom hudby už po piatu dekádu. Vnášajú do nášho života nevyhnutné pozastavenie, kontrast časovej kvality, a umožňujú nám prijať hudobné diela, ktoré priťahujú a riadia našu pozornosť. Diela skladateľov hrané interpretmi vedú naše vedomie do známych i menej známych svetov. Mágia hudobného času je sviatočným časom a hudobníci nám umožňujú stať sa aspoň na chvíľu jeho neoddeliteľnou súčasťou.

we have already got accustomed that autumn in our city is filled with sounds of classical music. Each year of Bratislava Music Festival is special in some way and brings unforgettable experiences for all those, who visit any of the numerous concerts. This year the music public will be interested not only in composers, conductors or musicians; the unique atmosphere will be underlined also by the renovated Reduta building. We may say, the building will be starring and will create a respectable frame for the concerts of the 48th BMF, twenty-six of them, with musicians from more than twenty countries of Europe, North and South Americas, Asia as well as distant Australia. Again an extraordinarily rich offer of renowned names and first-rate musical ensembles, e. g. Vienna Philharmonic with excellent Italian conductor Daniele Gatti, Czech Philharmonic with its new music director Jiří Bělohlávek, Budapest Festival Orchestra led by István Fischer, two excellent orchestras from England, Hamburg Philharmonic and Spanish National Orchestra. Do not forget Prague Radio Symphonic Orchestra under the baton of its present chief conductor Ondrej Lenárd – internationally respected Slovak personality celebrating a personal jubilee this year.
Besides being a genuine feast of music Bratislava Music Festival provides also for a positive confrontation and collaboration of artists from different countries. Thus Slovak Philharmonic will open the festival with its French music director Emmanuel Villaume and American violinist Sarah Chang. The closing concert will belong to Lebanese conductor living in Paris George Pehlivanian and excellent South Korean pianist Kun-Woo Paik; such examples as well as excellent experiences will occur in profusion. We will hear premieres, solo recitals, and a piece commissioned by the Festival Committee, this time from young Slovak composer Peter Groll. Musicians from Košice and Banská Bystrica will prove themselves, and the International Rostrum of Young Performers – New Talent has already become a respected tradition.
I believe that any music lover would choose from the rich programme one or more concerts and return home filled by impressions of amazing music. At the same time I hope that all participants as well as visitors, both domestic ones and from abroad, will feel deeply the excellent atmosphere brought by the festival, this year accentuated by the spaces of meticulously reconstructed and attractively re-created Reduta building.

A person who is the exclusive master of his/her own time and only he/she decides how to pass it, can avoid mental disorders only with difficulties. A human being lives in harmony with the time of nature which connects him/ her to the universe. He/she also lives in compliance with the time of the society that connects him/her with other people. The most ancient religions distinguished not only the time of the calendar, but also the time filled by meaning. They divided a year into working days and semantic days dedicated to common activities. The working time and the feast time alternate in human life. Without this rhythm the human life would be unbearable.
Once, a long time ago, some wise man joined the feast time with music. It happened not only in Europe, but in all human cultures. The feast time is a unique integrator of the society and music belongs to its most significant aides.
Our Bratislava Music Festival has been filling our lives with the music feast time for five decades. It brings a necessary suspension, a contrast in time character into our life, and enables us to accept music works which attract and command our attention. Musical works of composers performed by musicians lead our consciousness into well-known as well as less known worlds. The magic of music time is a feast time and musicians enable us, at least for a moment, to become its inseparable component.
